Updates

It has been far too long since my last post. Unfortunately, my father passed away this summer, which is why I have not been updating my blog. On a happier note, this school year is off to a great start!! I am currently running for SGA, so please vote me Chairwoman of Residence Life! :-) I will appreciate it. I am also part of the residence life staff this year, as the Assistant RA. I am very much involved with the other RA’s and Crystal Lopez-our new coordinator of residence life, even though I do not have the same responsibilites as the other RA’s. This year is more about watching and learning for me, so I will know what to do next year when I am a full RA. Another new thing for me this year, is that I have become an active member of RHA-Residence Hall Association. This club is very important to residents, and when they join it they get a say in the programs and activities provided in the resident halls. Julia Hollywood is the president, so if you would like to join please contact her! Other than that I am still a student ambassador and giving tours of the campus, along with being an over-night host for seniors in high school, and this year I have decided to participate in telecounseling as well. Basically, I just can’t get enough interaction with prospective students because I love GCU and I love talking about everything we do here :) . Orientation this year went beautifully, and I made a bunch of brand new connections with our new incoming class. Being an orientation leader is very important to me, because I want to make sure that the incoming students start off with the best possible experiences at Georgian Court.

As far as the other clubs I am involved in this year-everything is going wonderfully! This year I am a leader in Campus Ministry, and officially an experienced returner of Outdoor Adventures. We have a lot planned for the year in both groups and I look forward to meeting all the new people joining, and continuing to bond with the returners. I am going camping next weekend (October 3-4) with Outdoor Adventures, and this is our first big event of the year so I am really excited. Our first Campus Ministry event is on Friday and we are making our club t-shirts, which are tye-dye!! I am also super excited for that. We have had a few WILD events so far, and one of the most interesting was when we got to hear speaker, and author of Climbing the Ladder in Stilettos, Lynette Lewis. She had a lot of interesting and useful things to say, and overall I enjoyed the presentation quite a bit. Hopefully I will be able to help out on the WILD retreat coming up for the new WILD members, because last year I just had so much fun!

So you may be thinking, when do I have time for classes? Well don’t worry, I make time! This semester I am taking 19 credits, and somehow I managed to fit them all into three days! So that means I have Wednesdays and Fridays completely off, and I get a lot of my work done on those days. I am also part of the honors program, so it is possible to be involved with campus activities and still maintain an excellent GPA. In fact, it generally seems those who are involved succeed more academically and outside of the classroom more than those who are not.

This Friday, the 25th, is Georgian Court’s annual Back Porch Party so I hope to see most of the GCU community there! This Friday is also the first of the Freshman Friday’s, which I will be working at. I am very excited to see the high school seniors who are considering Georgian Court, and hopefully I can have a positive influence on their decision.

That’s all for now – Love: Bethany
